Demi Moore in the Spotlight

Alongside more recent news of the Blackberry Playbook coming soon, Demi Moore has been in the spotlight for years as one of the most famous actresses in Hollywood. Following smaller roles in movies and a stint on the soap opera General Hospital, she began to rise to prominence in the mid 1980s with a few major movie roles, including the film St Elmo's Fire. As the 1990s dawned, she shot to much greater fame with her performances in Ghost (1990), A Few Good Men (1992), Indecent Proposal (1993), and Disclosure (1994). Costarring with Patrick Swayze in Ghost particularly cemented her status as a major star in the industry, and Demi Moore became one of the highest paid actresses in the industry.

Her off screen life has been under camera just as much as her work on the big screen. Taking her professional name from first husband Freddy Moore, a professional singer songwriter, she has been married three times. Her second marriage to actor Bruce Willis produced three daughters. Demi Moore has been married to actor Ashton Kutcher since 2005. Like her previous relationships, this marriage has been analyzed and talked about in the popular media, partly owing to fascination over the age difference between Moore and Kutcher.

Early Life in Roswell NM

Demi Moore was born in Roswell New Mexico and raised by her mother and stepfather. Her biological father had left the family while her mother was still pregnant with her. As a result, as a child she carried the surname of her stepfather Danny Guynes. Early life was rough for her, as her parents were alcoholics. Danny Guynes had to change jobs quite frequently, which led the family to have to move from place to place throughout her childhood. As her career was beginning to take off, Danny Guynes committed suicide in 1980 [1].

By the time she reached high school age, Demi Moore and her family had moved to the Los Angeles area. Among her high school classmates were Anthony Kiedis and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and actor Timothy Hutton. By age 16 she decided to drop out of school to pursue a career in acting. Her film debut came in 1982 in a 3D scifi film that became somewhat of a drive in hit, Parasite. But she became widely known as a result of her turn as Jackie Templeton in General Hospital from 1982 to 1983.

Demi Moore Becomes a Star

Through the 1980s, the start power of Demi Moore began to increase. She appeared in some popular films and was listed as a member of the so called Brat Pack, the 1980s answer to the Rat Pack. After the widespread success of Ghost, Demi Moore became a huge star, the first actress to command over $10 million a picture [1]. She was the highest paid actress in Hollywood throughout the early 1990s, meaning she'd never again have worries common to the rest of us like how to pay her car insurance provider premiums.

Marriage to Ashton Kutcher

Still a major star by the early years of the 21st century, she ended up dating and then marrying actor Ashton Kutcher in 2005. Their romance has been panned by the media and received attention from the tabloids. In fall of 2010, allegations of Kutcher's infidelity hit the tabloid headlines, allegations that Demi Moore and her husband both denied. Throughout her career, Demi Moore has been notable for her off screen romances as much for her work on camera. Her life is an interesting study in a self made star overcoming early struggles to achieve her dreams.
