Driving in Rush Hour

There are a lot of driving situations out there that can be really frustrating for you as a driver. One of the most frustrating situations to be in is rush hour. A lot of drivers can't avoid driving at this time because it's when they get off work or have to be somewhere. As such, it's something that is necessary, but it's also something that is highly annoying. If you don't find ways to cope with this, then you can look forward to a lot of unhappy hours spent behind the wheel.

If you ask most drivers the one part of day that they hate driving, most of them are going to say rush hour. This answer usually comes because drivers don't like the extra time it takes to get places and the slow pace which causes them to be driving while exhausted. With so many vehicles on the road at one time, it becomes difficult for anyone to get where they are going in a timely manner. If you're not one who deals with boredom really well, then it's likely that rush hour traffic is going to get on your nerves more than it would for most people.

How to Cope

If you're going to be driving in rush hour, then you're probably going to be driving slowly for a long period of time. You need to figure out some ways to deal with this that don't involved you getting stressed out and frustrated. One thing that you may be able to do is practice some relaxation techniques. If you can do some proper breathing exercises, then this may be a good way for you to relieve some of the tension. The calmer that you are when you are behind the wheel, the easier it is going to be for you to deal with rush hour traffic.

You might also want to try and make sure that you have some entertainment options in your vehicle. Having something to do while you are waiting can make a big difference, especially if it is interesting. If you have satellite radio in your car, then this can provide you with hours of fun entertainment. You'll be able to choose to listen to news programs or you can listen to lots of different types of music. Furthermore, you could try to get some audio books and listen to them while you are waiting in traffic.

How to Avoid Rush Hour

If you can avoid rush hour traffic, then you need to take that opportunity. One thing that you may want to do is try to skip lunch and see if you can get off a little bit early. If you can get a head start, then you may not get stuck in all of the traffic that you normally would. Leaving even five or ten minutes before other people might be a good idea, so that you can get away from the thick of things and not get stuck in it all.

Alternatively, you could always try leaving work at a later time to avoid driving in rush hour traffic. If you have some extra things to do at the office, then you could spend some more time there and finish them up before you leave. You could also try using a local gym or visiting the nearest library for an hour or so. If you give the traffic some time to cool down before you get on the road, you will be in a much better position. Plus, you will be doing something productive in the meantime.
