Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Mayoral Race

Even with foreign news stories such as Oprah's Australia trip dominating the news scene, domestic stories are also very important.  Rahm Emanuel has become a possible candidate in the upcoming Chicago mayoral race now that current Mayor Richard Daley has decided not to run for reelection. Though no official decision has been made, speculation has been rampant that the White House Chief of Staff would at least consider throwing his hat in the ring for the office with Daley stepping down. A native of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel has never tried to cover up the fact that this is his dream job. During his time as a U.S. Congressman, he repeatedly stated as much, and surmised that he would be interested in running as long as he wouldn't have to run against Daley [1].

Rahm Emanuel Releases Statement

The chief of staff has not yet indicated his plans, but the day after Chicago's mayor announced that he would not seek another term in office, he did release a statement of his own saying that he was surprised by the mayor's decision to step down. Though President Obama's chief of staff has not yet tipped his hand regarding his plans, it is apparent there is some interest, and he also seems to have some support from others, including the White House senior advisor who has gone on record to say Rahm Emanuel would make a great mayor if he did decide to run.

In the immediate aftermath of Daley's announcement, it was still too soon to tell what the White House Chief of Staff was going to do. But in any case, this is a very public example of something that happens in places all over the country every day. People in the workforce who get new job opportunities often have to think quickly about the ramifications of a possible move and make snap decisions before the chances pass them by. In the case of Rahm Emanuel, he actually has until November 22 to decide, that being the deadline to file to enter Chicago's mayoral race.

But for some of us, out of town opportunities come much quicker and we need to move quickly to make things happen. Attending to important details like selling our homes or getting them rented out is very important. One of these details that sometimes are not right on the front of our minds is our car insurance.

Car Insurance Compliance is Important

It might seem like a trifling matter to some folks when they have so many things to take care of in so little time, but car insurance compliance is extremely important. When you move to a new state, you're responsible for complying with that state's auto insurance laws. What's more, drivers that relocate also need to take care of updating their auto registration and get new license plates as well as drivers licenses. But first and foremost is car insurance. This might seem like something we can put off for awhile, especially if the tags on our plates and the term of our insurance policy are not about to expire. But if you get in an accident and it is revealed that you've relocated and not updated your car insurance, the consequences can be very costly.

If someone is in a situation like Rahm Emanuel here they have a chance to relocate for a job opportunity, it's important to take care of all important details including automobile insurance. Get with your insurance company and let them know what is happening. Get a termination date established for your in state auto policy, and find out if they offer coverage in your new state. If you, like Rahm Emanuel, will have to relocate on a dime, it is helpful if you can just work by fax or email to get these things taken care of.

And just as importantly, drivers should make sure that they get their old policies cancelled at the correct date so that they don't end up paying for coverage they don't need.
